Church holding street party Sunday evening to raise money for family needing help with medical bills

Midway Christian Church is hosting a street party from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday for the Campbell/Spicer family on Church and East Bruen streets, next to the church.

"Cynthia, the mom, recently had emergency heart surgery without health insurance," said the Rev. Heather McColl, pastor of the church, where the family is active. "They have five kids that range in age from high school to elementary school. Joe Campbell, the father, is a part of Midway’s volunteer fire department."

The fund-raiser will include a dunking booth in which the Northside Elementary School Principal Ryan Asher, Midway Mayor Grayson Vandegrift, several city council members and a few ministers from area churches have agreed to take a turn. There will be a bounce house from Party Central, and there will be henna and face painting. The Versailles Police Department, which patrols the entire county, will bring its canine unit, and the Midway Fire Department's new truck will be rolled out into Bruen Street.

Food options will include cotton candy from the Midway Woman’s Club, sno-cones, kettle corn, hot dogs and baked goods. A silent auction will also help raise money. Live music will be provided by Blake Jones, Willa Michel and the mayor. Vandegrift wrote in this week's Woodford Sun, "What a wonderful example of a community coming together to help one of their own in a time of need."
